June 26-29, 2012 at Glenwood Park

Middleburg Orange County Summer Camp is open to all MOC Pony Club members and a limited numbers of members from other pony clubs by invitation only.   We hope to again have a D-0 group for young siblings and invited guests (suitable for leadline, W/T riders), if there is interest.

In addition to mounted lessons there will be a variety of unmounted activities as well as crafts and “horsin’” around time.  Most of the un-mounted activities will focus on skills and knowledge that will be helpful as you progress to higher ratings within Pony club. Don’t worry, there are no lectures. It is all interactive and fun for everyone.  The scavenger hunt will again give a lucky (or very skilled) winning team the chance to have their stalls mucked out at the end of camp...by the rest of the club.

We typically hold Club-Level (D1-C2) certifications 4 times a year (March/April, June/July, Aug/Sep and Oct/Nov), or more, as needed.  In 2010, USPC implemented an Alternate Ratings Progression (ARP) in addition to the Classic or Traditional certification.  The ARP allows clubbers to test the HM, Flat and Jumping sections of a level, in that order, as separate tests or combined.  If all three sections are passed then the clubber will have achieved the Classic or Traditional certification at that level.  Upper levels (C3 and up) are tested at the National Level and require application through the Virginia Region for testing.

Congratulations to MOCPC clubber Hannah A.  - our newest B!

Next Club Rating - If there is interest, MOC may hold an HM certification session this winter/spring, otherwise, the next mounted rating will be in April/May once everyone has brushed the cobwebs off their horses and tack this spring...

Mounted lessons focus on providing skills advancement and preparation for upcoming ratings and rallies and vary in focus between dressage (flat work), show jumping and cross country, primarily.

MOCPC provides access to mounted lessons for our members for a minimal $10 co-pay per lesson.  Lessons are typically scheduled as small groups of 3-5 riders for a one hour duration.  Pony Club lessons often vary in location and instructor to provide flexiblility and accessibility to our members.

Unmounted lessons (groundschools) are more prevalent in the winter months when riding conditions are poor and focus on providing information and tools for advancement in horse management knowledge.
